Explore the Lake District
The 214 fells of the Lake District, carefully mapped by Alfred Wainwright, are among the most famous UK routes and enough to keep any keen walker satisfied. For those seeking a shorter or less physically demanding route, there are an abundance of low level walks that still offer spectacular views of the fells, as well as hidden waterfalls, tumbling becks and lakeside vistas.
“Oh, how can I put into words the joys of a walk over country such as this; the scenes that delight the eyes, the blessed peace of mind, the sheer exuberance which fills your soul as you tread the firm turf? This is something to be lived, not read about.” Alfred Wainwright
Discover the Yorkshire Dales
Head east into the Yorkshire Dales or Howgills, and the landscape transforms into wild open moorland, limestone pavement and rolling hills dotted with idyllic stone hamlets and impressive rocky outcrops. For the adventurous hiker, there is a choice of challenging trails, including the Yorkshire Three Peaks, a scramble up Gordale Scar and multi-day routes that take in the very best the Dales has to offer. Low-level walkers can enjoy stunning river valleys, ancient castles and abbeys or even a trip to England’s highest unbroken waterfall, Hardraw Force.
