The Lake District is the ultimate UK destination for those who crave adventure! There are many marvellous mountains to climb and a wealth of walks, and as we are expert guides when it comes to Lake District walking holidays, we know that Scafell Pike is definitely one of the best! So let’s take a look at Scafell Pike – the master of the mountains…
About Scafell Pike
As the tallest mountain in the UK – it measures a staggering 978 metres (that’s 3,209ft above sea level!) – Scafell is a challenging mountain to climb, but is exceptionally beautiful, offering walkers spectacular views right across the Lake District National Park. This exceptionally tall mountain must not be confused with Sca Fell, Scafell Pike’s smaller neighbouring mountain. Scafell Pike is part of the National Three Peak Challenge, and rightly so, it is a tough one!
Popular Walking Starting Points:
There are many ways that you can try to tackle this mountain, should you choose to accept this incredible climbing challenge. More often than not, walkers choose to start their accent from Wasdale Head. The walk itself from this starting point isn’t too complicated, however it is very steep.
For those seeking a more challenging walk up Scafell Pike with breathtaking scenery, start your journey at Seathwaite Farm, which located at the end of Borrowdale. Continue onwards towards Styhead Tarn then venture onto the Corridor Route, which is not for the faint-hearted. The route will then join up with the route from Wasdale.
Another popular route begins at Langdale, which goes up past Rossett Gill, Angle Tarn and Esk Hause before reaching the path to the summit. This route is for more energetic walkers, and can be quite rocky, so you need to be careful on your feet.
Of course, if you haven’t climbed Scafell Pike before, we recommend that you take a guide, especially if you’re starting from a less well known starting point!
